Compass
She was a ten-year-old rocket ready to soar
When her heart pointed straight to a sparkle in the sky
And wrote her name on it
But when she tried to fly up to that light
She was yanked back down to the ground by that same old lie
“Take only one that’s fallen”
She could see her North Star lighting up the night
And feel a desire burn deep inside
But she let other voices
Cloud up the skies and make her choices
And throw off her compass
As a young woman, she’d grown tall enough
To see beyond their small-minded hills
Towards the wide open unknown
When along came a man who shined so bright
She was blinded by his strong and steady fire
And began to walk in his shadow
She could see her North Star lighting up the night
And feel that desire burn deep inside
But she let other voices
Cloud up the skies and make her choices
And throw off her compass
As the years flew by her
The rope of fate got tighter and tighter
Until one day she found a way to cut herself free
She could see her North Star lighting up the night
And could feel that desire rekindle deep inside
Yeah, she can touch her own star way up high in the sky
And feel her spirit spread its wings to fly
Now she won’t let any other voices
Cloud up the skies or make her choices
She’s gonna follow
She’s gonna follow
Yeah, She’s gonna follow
Her own compass
